Handler keynoted speaker for CITA BIM Gathering in Ireland

Woburn, Mass – Tocci Building Companies (Tocci), a Boston-area construction manager, recently announced that Laura Handler, Director of Service Design and Strategy at Tocci, spoke at the Construction IT Alliance (CITA) Building Information Modeling (BIM) Gathering in Dublin, Ireland. Handler gave a keynote address explaining “The Human (only) Side of BIM.” The conference was held from November 14 – 15 to discuss the potential outcomes of modern construction technology, Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), BIM, and lean construction practices for Ireland.

Handler’s keynote broke down the evolution of BIM implementation into three stages: technology, process, and sociology. Handler’s address emphasized how new technologies have called for a change in the management structure of the construction industry. She focused on the application of behavioral and motivational theory to enhance the efficiency of BIM strategies in and out of the office.

“Laura has already made indispensable contributions to the company and to the industry,” said John Tocci, Chief Enabling Officer at Tocci Building Companies. “The opportunity to share her knowledge with an international audience is a testimonial to the respect she has gained so rapidly from her fellow industry leaders.”

Recently, Handler spoke at BIM Perspectives on November 8, in Boston, MA, an event held to discuss the best practices for using BIM during a collaborative design and construction process. Handler spoke at the panel session “BIM for the Field,” where her she shared Tocci’s perspective on BIM implementation on the jobsite.

Her experience in the construction industry has earned her a multitude of recognition, including Maverick of the Year in 2012 and 40 Under 40 in 2013 from Engineering News Record. Handler has worked on projects focusing on transforming business processes for Tocci and the construction industry. Her technical expertise and clarity of vision have earned her a seat among the seasoned builders of Tocci’s executive builders and now international industry leaders.
