Rebecca S. Casey Earns WELL AP

Rebecca Casey

Andover, MA  – SMRT healthcare architect Rebecca S. Casey, AIA, joins the emerging vanguard of U.S. and international design professionals credentialed in the WELL Building StandardTM, the premier standard for buildings, interior spaces and communities seeking to incorporate and measure features that support and advance human health and wellness.

As a healthcare architect, Casey sees some WELL principles already reflected in the design and construction of medical institutions, but points out they are applicable to workplaces of all varieties and could be most effective for buildings with large numbers of occupants, including science and technology, corporate and education facilities.  “Lifestyle and environmental factors comprise 60-70% of our health determinants,” Casey says.”

Considered the next generation of sustainability in the workplace, the WELL Standard differs from LEED in its focus on the people in a building rather than environmental impacts.  WELL and LEED certifications do have some alignment, however, and are both administered by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI).
