JMC Wins ABC MA EIC Eagle Award

Maynard, MA – JM Coull (JMC) is honored to be awarded an Excellence in Construction Eagle Award from the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) for the design-build construction of Whitinsville Christian School’s new 33,000 sf fine arts center and gymnasium, as well as an addition above the existing school building. The 450-seat theater includes a professional audio and acoustical system and provides a modern space for the school’s performances and musical productions. The collegiate-level gym features multiple basketball courts, bleachers, locker rooms, training room, and can accommodate 1,500 occupants. A large lobby with a custom concession area, trophy display case, and exterior balcony joins the two spaces, and a 100-foot-long, clear span pedestrian bridge connects the new facility to the existing school building.

The project was performed on an open, active school campus, where grades ranged from kindergarten to grade 12. Ensuring the safety of everyone on site, particularly children, was of utmost importance. This was especially critical during certain elements of the project, such as construction of the pedestrian bridge, which sits 15 feet above ground at its highest point. JMC instituted an organized and efficient coordination process throughout the entire project, and pre-task planning was implemented to ensure smooth coordination and safety.

“We are honored to be recognized by ABC for our work at Whitinsville Christian School,” states JMC Chief Operating Officer Josh Brandt. “This was a unique project in many ways – it was our first theater project and the school’s first project using the design-build process. The eagle award really represents the dedication and commitment of everyone involved, not just JM Coull.”
