PCA MarketStreet 01

MarketStreet

Lynnfield, MA – The opening of MarketStreet in Lynnfield introduces a town center experience, community green spaces, professional office space and a first phase of 54 new retail, entertainment and dining destinations.

Designed by Prellwitz Chilinski Associates (PCA) and developed by a joint venture of National Development and WS Development, MarketStreet builds on the success of PCA’s Legacy Place, offering upscale retail, dining and entertainment within a lushly landscaped environment.

MarketStreet was designed to generate the vitality of a town center. The 11buildings, housing retail, entertainment and dining, are organized to create three new streets, a market square and a town green. The range of venues allows a shopping trip to become something more – an opportunity to explore, indulge and recharge – spending an afternoon into the evening with family and friends discovering a variety of exciting places.

At 475,000sf, MarketStreet Lynnfield will be the North Shore’s largest open air shopping center. The venues on-site include a 45,000sf Whole Foods Market, designed with a green roof where produce sold in the store below is grown and harvested.

Restaurants  cafes and eateries  offer a wide range of dining options for hungry shoppers. Entertainment venues are supplemented with a wide range of fashion retail that combine to create an eclectic mix of food, fashion and fun that people will want to explore.

Outdoor spaces contain rich plantings of native grasses and other local plants, a design feature inspired by the original meadow landscapes of Lynnfield. Street trees, lighting, benches and planters all help to create an approachable, pedestrian-friendly environment, providing a destination in its own right.

MarketStreet creates a town center feeling on this suburban site, with active outdoor spaces and dining and entertainment options that bring people together much like a traditional town center.

“MarketStreet offers the qualities that customers appreciate most about town centers, but that are often missing in suburban shopping centers,” says Mark Eclipse, Principal of PCA. “We envisioned a place with style and character that draws people together to work, play, socialize and shop in a true community experience.”

The “Main Street” forms two public spaces: Market Square with casual seating and a children’s play area surrounded by restaurants and cafes, and a more formal Town Green designed to accommodate public events and gatherings.

Several new streets weave through buildings of varying heights and materials, creating a rich mosaic of forms that feels like a village center evolving over time.

“We worked closely with PCA to take the best of lifestyle centers from around the country and create a place unique to Lynnfield,” said Ted Tye, Managing Partner of National Development. “We wanted MarketStreet to look like it had been built over time with a mix of architecture that mirrors the way that town centers are developed.”

The network of streets and frequent crosswalks, with ample parking near shop fronts, is scaled to feel comfortable for pedestrians, encouraging them to wander on to see what lies ahead. A range of architectural finishes blend historic architectural tradition with contemporary style and warm colors. This individual character combined with an active,

engaging rhythm along the street front, contributes life and vitality to the open air experience.

The initial construction, with a total of 280,000 SF, sets the stage for an additional 195,000 SF of retail and office space for a total of 475,000 SF.
