Yale-New Haven Hospital

North Haven, CT—-Engaged as the construction manager by Yale-New Haven Hospital, O&G was hired to manage the remodeling of an existing four-story office building to create a comprehensive ambulatory care center.

With tight budget and a total construction duration of less than six months, O&G’s field team, led by project manager Carrie Riera and superintendents George Parenteau and Steve Baranello, successfully managed this fast-track project; opening the North Haven Medical Center on time.

Designed by Cannon Design, the medical center includes Yale-New Haven’s first interventional immunology center specializing in the treatment of chronic autoimmune conditions and related disorders.

The new building also includes a walk-in/primary care center, a Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center – one of ten Smilow Hospital Care Centers in Connecticut, consultative and infusion treatment services for outpatient medical and hematological care, and an on-site diagnostic radiology center offering MRI and digital X-Ray imaging, fluoroscopy, laboratory and blood drawing services.

Office renovation of the third and fourth floors, approximately 50,000sf, was completed in less than eight weeks, consolidating Yale-New Haven Hospital’s IT Department from multiple sites in New Haven to the North Haven facility and moving them in on schedule.

The concept of using a non-purpose built office building for a state-of-the-art clinical facility was chosen for speed to market and O&G’s pre-construction and field teams rose to the challenge. It was only through the development of a strong rapport, regular meetings and constant communication with Yale-New Haven Hospital, Cannon Design and the local Building Officials that any issues were resolved in a timely manner. Throughout, a close working relationship with the entire team was essential to overall project success.

A key to the success of this ambitious project was the use of the BIM Model, simulating the coordination and layout of building components. O&G’s superintendents used our BIM360 Field iPad software to assure excellence in quality of buildings systems and installations, allowing near instant communication of any field issues to the design team. Made up of some of the company’s most dedicated and experienced employees, O&G continually met the Owner’s expectations, delivering the North Haven Medical Center on-time, ready to open.

Formed in 1923 by two immigrants with a strong work ethic and a goal of getting the job done right, O&G Industries is one of the largest and most diversified construction services companies in the northeast. Those values and commitment to customer service were ingrained by the company’s founders over 90 years ago, along with a reputation for finishing projects on-time and within budget, and remain the cornerstone of O&G’s success
