Employees Direct $424,000 to Nonprofits through Cummings Community Giving

Boston – Cummings Properties announced that employees have together directed $424,000 to local nonprofits. Through Cummings Community Giving, the Woburn-based commercial real estate firm annually invites staff to each select a local nonprofit or two to receive a cash donation from the company in their name.

The program, now in its 11th year, aims to support the communities where Cummings team members live and work. This cycle’s $424,000 will help fund 195 causes in approximately 80 local cities and towns. Participants have cumulatively directed nearly $5 million in donations to date.

The company upped the ante in 2022 by increasing the program’s potential impact: Whereas historically most staff could direct $1,000, and those with at least 10 years’ seniority could direct $2,000, all employees are now invited to each direct a total of $2,000.

Micah Howeson

Cummings Properties estate management tech, Micah Howeson, selected Massachusetts Center for Native American Awareness, of Danvers, and Friends of Woburn Veterans to each receive $1,000.

“With so many impactful nonprofits in the region, choosing a cause to support can feel daunting,” said Howeson, a two-year team member. “This year’s program changes made one of my favorite parts of working for Cummings that much better. I was able to split my donation between two exceptional organizations.”

Cummings Community Giving is open to staff at Cummings Properties as well as its affiliated senior living communities: New Horizons at Choate in Woburn, and New Horizons at Marlborough. In recent years, the program has expanded to include longtime leasing clients and Cummings Foundation volunteers.

Each eligible nonprofit may receive up to $6,000 per cycle. This year, 17 recipients reached the maximum, including Boston Children’s Hospital, Jamie McKeown Boys & Girls Club of Woburn, Northeast Animal Shelter (of Salem), and Oranges from Morgan (of Boxford).
