Bridgeport, CT – For the first time in its history, Viking Construction has been named Best of Show from the Associated Builders and Contractors of Connecticut (CT-ABC). Viking was presented with the honor at the CT-ABC’s annual awards event, recognizing the company’s general contractor role on the $19 million Winward redevelopment project in downtown Bridgeport. Viking also took home its 13th Excellence in Construction Award from the CT-ABC for The Windward project.

The Windward is a mixed-use complex that sits on a 4.5-acre parcel in a densely populated area of Bridgeport’s South End. This was a redevelopment of the former 1940s-era Marina Village housing complex, one of Bridgeport’s largest public housing communities. Viking helped revive the downtown community by turning this low-lying barracks-style community that had long suffered from age, neglect, blight, and flooding during Tropical Storm Irene in 2011 and Superstorm Sandy in 2012 into a colorful and vibrant complex.

“One of the most rewarding aspects of our work in the construction industry is being able to play a part in life-changing projects like The Windward,” said Anthony Gaglio, senior president of Viking Construction. “This redevelopment project directly affects families and helps positively redefine the greater community. For these reasons, receiving this Best of Show award is so significant to everyone at Viking who worked so hard on The Windward. We are deeply grateful for this recognition.”

CT-ABC’s annual competition is judged by an independent panel of architects, engineers and university professionals who evaluate the quality and client satisfaction of each project.  Judges also pay particular attention to the rigorous safety standards of each contractor. Each year, judges select one of the award winners to highlight as Best of Show.
