Cranston, RI The Rhode Island Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA RI) announced that DiPrete Engineering’s, Sheryl Bezak Guglielmo was recently awarded the 2013 President’s Award for Distinguished Service. Honored at the APA RI annual awards reception & holiday event held in December at Bravo Brasserie in Providence, the award was presented to Guglielmo for her extensive service to the local chapter and its members.

“Sheryl plays an incredibly important role within our firm as an accomplished project engineer and leader,” said Dennis DiPrete, principal of DiPrete Engineering. “Her commitment to the trade is evident in her work with the Rhode Island Chapter of the APA.

The Distinguished Service award is given annually to an APA RI member who has made a substantial contribution to the development and objective of the chapter. Guglielmo has been an APA RI chapter member for the past five years. She was elected Secretary of the Executive Board of APA RI in 2010 and served until earlier this year.

Guglielmo also helps plan the annual Southern New England American Planning Association Conference. She served as the RI and MA APA newsletter, co-graphic designer for two years and was also the web designer for the Conference website. From 2008 – 2011, she chaired the publications committee and served as the graphic designer for Conference Publications.

The selection of the President’s Award for Distinguished Service was made by the APA RI Chapter President, Melanie Jewett Army, AICP, APA RI Chapter President.

“We were so fortunate to have Sheryl as a member of the APA RI Executive Board,” said  Army,  “She was tireless in her efforts to streamline communications with our members along with creating newsletters and serving on our annual conference committees. Her contributions were invaluable.”

The American Planning Association (APA) is an independent, not-for-profit educational organization that provides leadership in the development of vital communities. APA RI is one of 47 chapters and 20 divisions of the American Planning Association across the country. Focused on public interest and research initiatives the organization is dedicated to urban, suburban, regional and rural planning. APA RI has over 150 members.
