Altieri Honored with Industry Awards

National WWII Museum

Wilton, CT – Altieri announced it is celebrating two recent industry awards.

The firm’s work on The National WWII Museum in New Orleans was recognized with a 2026 Award of Merit for Architectural Engineering Integration by the Architectural Engineering Institute (AEI). AEI announced winners of the AEI Professional Projects Awards at its recent annual conference, recognizing excellence in high-performance, integrated building design. The awards highlight achievements including mechanical and electrical engineering design and multidisciplinary coordination and integration.

Voorsanger Architects’ 200,000sf, $300+ million phased expansion was executed over two decades. It involved significant integration challenges for the design team including maintaining consistent quality and system performance with seamless integration of MEPF systems, strategically future-proofing critical systems in early phases to support later building interconnections and evolving program requirements, and designing for future and long-term changes by anticipating technological change and evolving infrastructure needs. Representatives of Altieri say the team is honored to be recognized for their extraordinary foresight, long-term collaboration, and future-ready engineering that contributed to the project’s outstanding success.

Folger Shakespeare Library

The Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums (MAAM) recognized Folger Shakespeare Library with a 2026 Buildy Award, the organization’s highest honor for completed museum building projects. The award celebrates museum directors, staff, trustees, and design and construction teams whose collaborative efforts result in sustainable, mission-driven cultural facilities that successfully serve their communities. Led by architects KieranTimberlake, the 10-year, 44,419sf (6,000sf below grade), $80.5 million renewal and expansion project aimed to expand the audience, relevance, and future of the Folger and incorporate contemporary interventions while preserving the integrity of the historic architecture.

Considerable challenges faced the design team, including the technical complexity of adding to a historic structure in a highly constrained setting. Unlike a typical construction process where the building starts from the ground up, a new building was added underneath the existing historic site. The challenges were met with innovative integrated systems design and team coordination accomplishments including the threading of all mechanical systems from the existing landmark building under the slab of the new addition, and the seamless integration of a new low velocity air distribution system in the nearly 100-year-old theatre. Representatives of Altieri said they were proud to be part of the design team that made an exceptionally bold vision work.
