Scholar Athletes Holds Ribbon Cutting

SA Ribbon

(l-r) John Fish; Mayor Walsh; Rebekah Salwasser; Tommy Chang; and current Scholar Athlete Zone member Vanessa Nedd cut the ribbon on the new headquarters.

Boston – Rebekah Salwasser, executive director at Scholar Athletes, was joined by John Fish, chairman and CEO of Suffolk Construction, Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh, and Boston School Superintendent Tommy Chang for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new headquarters of Scholar Athletes at 57 Magazine Street in Roxbury.

Launched in 2009, Scholar Athletes was cofounded through a public private partnership. The new headquarters will serve as a home for central office staff, provide space for training staff and tutors, and a safe space for high school Zone members to participate in workshops and college counseling.

The organization has experienced tremendous growth and refined its model by expanding to Springfield and increased impact to over 4,000 high school students in its short six-year history. “This is a great opportunity to not only highlight the success of the organization but also to celebrate the new home of Scholar Athletes that will support the growth of services to our students in Boston and Springfield,” said Salwasser.
