Deerfield, MA – Wayne J. Griffin Electric, Inc. (Griffin Electric) announced it recently finished an electrical renovation on a 62,000sf dining hall at Deerfield Academy. Located in Deerfield, the private boarding and day school serves students in grades 9-12, and its dining hall will accommodate approximately 650 students.

Established in 1797, Deerfield Academy is one of the oldest secondary schools in the country. Academy leaders aimed to modernize its central dining space, first constructed over 75 years ago, without sacrificing the unique atmosphere known by generations of graduates. In addition to expanding the size of the hall to accommodate more seating, renovations included a large production kitchen, state-of-the-art bakery, employee dining space, and two dishwashing rooms.

Griffin Electric’s team handled a wide scope of electrical work on the project, such as the restoration of historic lighting throughout multiple rooms as well as the installation of a new district generator, fire alarm, boiler plant, and 94K solar array. The Griffin team also implemented utility upgrades and oversaw all telecom work on-site, including the integration of the dining hall’s fiber optics network with the rest of campus.

Fontaine Brothers, Inc. served as the project’s general contractor. RFS Engineering served as the electrical engineer, while Architectural Resources Cambridge (ARC) was the architect.
