Facade Restoration Begins on Historic Gym at Tufts

Medford, MA –JLL Construction has commenced construction of the Cousens Gymnasium façade restoration project at Tufts University in Medford. The project is scheduled for completion in November 2014.

The project requires a significant amount of historical custom brick replication. The scope of the restoration includes: lintel replacement, repointing of façade and chimney, selective repair and replacement of brick and cast stone elements, selective foundation repairs, waterproofing of all façade elements and exposed foundation, window replacement and refurbishment, replacement of all lead-coated copper copings, replacement of all copper downspouts and scuppers, selective pitched roof repair and flat roof replacements, and the refurbishment/reconstruction of main entry stairs. Interior work related to exterior maintenance issues will also be addressed.

Large energy recovery ventilator units will be added to ventilate the space. Conditioning will be added to the front offices. Cracking on the inside faces of the exterior walls and foundation will be repaired and the walls repainted.
