Boston – Finegold Alexander Architects has been selected to design the new Lowell Trial Court, sited in the historic Hamilton Canal District of downtown Lowell. The 255,000sf project is set on a 3.3-acre parcel and will consist of seven floors and 17 courtrooms with state-of-the-art security and technology features.
The new courthouse will provide facilities for the Superior, District, Probate & Family, Juvenile, and Housing courts of Middlesex County. In addition, the building will provide new space for the Middlesex County Registry of Deeds, District Attorney, and a robust resource center for self-represented litigants. A parking garage for executive-level staff only one block away is also included.
This project has strong sustainability goals including generating 20% to 30% of the energy that will be used by the facility onsite, saving the commonwealth an estimated $40,000 to $60,000 per year.
