Rendering of new school on Leeder Hill
Hamden, CT – A groundbreaking took place on December 14 at 130 Leeder Hill Road in Hamden for a new school that consolidates two special education programs into one location for students served by Area Cooperative Educational Services (ACES).
Silver / Petrucelli + Associates was selected by ACES to lead the design effort for the $60 million project, which began with the selection of one of 12 potential sites. Leeder Hill Road, the location of a former charter school, presented the best option in terms of site access, existing building conditions, and expansion possibilities for the 141,300sf school.
ACES at Leeder Hill will provide special education to high school students through 21 years of age under one roof. Specialty laboratory programming elements include occupational therapy rooms, sensory and aqua-therapy rooms, gross motor rooms, assistive technology training spaces, as well as vocational programs including art, shop, video studio, etc. The new school is expected to open in the fall of 2019.
