State and town officials were gathered at the ceremony for the project that was approved by voters last March. The 74 year old fire station was only being manned 6 hours a day, but the new 2 story station will allow for 24 hour emergency service to the area. The station is needed to serve the town’s north end, and reduce emergency response time. Fire Chief Alan Jack said the current response time is unacceptable.

The town committee decided to go with a modular, prefabricated building to expand the fire station to allow for a favorable budget and construction schedule. The Attleboro based GC will construct a modular Fire sub-station consisting of a modular two-floor living quarters and an attached apparatus bay. Nadeau will include a training facility for the firefighters on the ground level.

The construction will continue through the winter months and will be completed in the Spring of 2014. The station will keep it’s name in memory of Richard Banna, who died in the line of duty in 1977.
