WSP Gets ACEC/MA Award

MIT Building 2 renovation

Boston – The American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA) has named WSP as a winner of a 2018 Bronze Engineering Excellence Awards for its work on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Building 2- Departments of Mathematics and Chemistry project in Cambridge.

WSP, with offices in Boston, was retained by MIT to provide services for the renewal and two-phase renovation of the school’s 100-year-old Building 2, home to the Departments of Mathematics and Chemistry.

As part of the well-known historic Main Building Group, the renovation is not the only first for this building; for the first time in campus history, a new floor was added to the existing iconic building.

Design and engineering features were carefully decided to ensure the building’s exterior was minimally altered; all changes resulted in improved energy and therefore a LEED Gold certification from the USGBC.
