WalletHub recently released its report on 2022’s Greenest States, with Vermont ranking at No. 1, and Massachusetts ranking at No. 6 on the list.
In order to determine the greenest states, WalletHub compared the 50 states across three key dimensions: Environmental Quality, Eco-Friendly Behaviors and Climate-Change Contributions.
Those dimensions were evaluated using 25 relevant metrics. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the highest level of eco-friendliness. The data set ranges from green buildings per capita to the share of energy consumption from renewable resources.
WalletHub then determined each state’s weighted average across all metrics to calculate its overall score and used the resulting scores to rank-order the states.
