Thornton Tomasetti Wins ACEC/MA Award

Asian garden at the Peabody Essex Museum

Salem, MA – The American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA) has named Thornton Tomasetti as a winner of the 2020 Bronze Engineering Excellence award for work on the Peabody Essex Museum renovation in Salem. The awards celebrate innovation, ingenuity, and excellence in engineering achievement.

The museum renovation provides a new gallery wing and  south-facing Asian garden, and renovations to the existing Asian export art wing and East India marine hall. The 40,000sf expansion features dedicated gallery space, a light-filled atrium and a group entrance.

There is also a new 5,000sf garden with unique water features and plantings that offers an inviting space to sit and relax and contemplate. Rising three stories and adding a facade to the Essex Street pedestrian way, the new wing enhances the older sections while providing space dedicated to presenting the museum’s extensive collection.
