Boston, MA -Sustainable Performance Institute (SPI), which helps construction recently named Wight & Companyas the first organization to successfully complete the SPI Green Building Certification program, a recognition of Wight’s capability to deliver consistent, high quality sustainability services.

“Wight & Co. is intrinsically connected to the communities it serves,” explains Barbra Batshalom, Executive Director of SPI. “We are pleased to extend our support to the clients Wight collaborates with, in order to further increase positive and responsible environmental action.”

Based out of Chicago, IL, Wight & Company is a leader in integrated architecture, engineering, and construction solutions. Wight has designed more than 30 LEED-certified and -registered buildings. “Other firms considering Green Firm Certification might think the process is onerous. Wight has been putting sustainable solutions into place since the late 1990s and transforming the way we do business to continually reduce our environmental impacts,” explains Lois Vitt Sale, Chief Sustainability Officer at Wight. “SPI took our processes and documentation and fit them into their criteria so we did not have to invent a whole new set of practices to earn this certification. We value this certification both as a recognition of what we have achieved, but also see this as a visible roadmap for assisting us to stay the course in the coming years.”

SPI Certification is the first 3rd-party program to evaluate and recognize design and construction firms’ capability to deliver consistent, high quality sustainability services. The Certification provides a roadmap for continuous improvement to help firms understand, set and monitor their sustainability goals. Certification addresses recognized standards and certifications such as LEED, Integrated Project Delivery, and Architecture 2030, but goes beyond these specific guidelines to look at overall organizational capacity. The SPI Certification program includes a diverse range of consulting and training services that guide firms in achieving their sustainability goals
