Why did you decide to join SMPS?
Because I wanted to meet and connect with other marketing professionals in the A/E/C industry. I also wanted to become a committee member. I found their (SMPS) programs to be very educational/beneficial over the years and I very much wanted to be a part of this organization.
What advice would you give to someone considering joining SMPS?
JOIN now! You will not regret it. There are tons of opportunities to grow as a marketer as well as build long-term connections with other marketing professionals.
What’s the most interesting thing about you that we wouldn’t learn from your resume alone?
I am quite the comedian. Oh yeah and I love to dance. But most importantly there is nothing I LOVE more than being a mom!

How has your SMPS membership benefited your career?
SMPS has given me access to several professional development opportunities. As a young professional and newbie to the A/E/C Industry, SMPS has provided resources for me to continually learn. I have watched several of their webinars, networked at events and joined a committee.
Some of these webinars teach me topics that I would not have otherwise explored on my own (and they have turned out to be very helpful in my career!) The events give me opportunities to make connections within the industry and learn about how other marketers approach their job responsibilities in their firms. The Communications Committee has given me the opportunity to explore social media (specifically Instagram) which I enjoy very much. I can take the experience of managing that social media platform and bring it back to my firm.
What advice would you give to someone considering joining SMPS?
The more you get involved, the bigger the return on investment. If you are new to the industry, SMPS can provide several learning and networking opportunities. Join a committee if you can! It’s a great way to get to know people in your chapter and it could give you the opportunity to explore aspects of marketing that you may not have experience in yet.
What is your favorite screen-time break activity at work?
I like taking walks or chatting with my colleagues (or both at the same time). My firm just moved to a new office park earlier this year, so it’s been nice to explore the new area.
Paul works for ELLANA Construction Consultants as a business development associate.
