Publisher’s Message: March 2020

Anastasia Barnes

March is our annual Educational Facilities issue, focusing on both private and public institutions (K through higher ed).  There never seems to be a shortage of school construction in New England. Perhaps that’s why education is one of the biggest sectors to work in!

According to research conducted by several higher education professionals and Planon, an IWMS solutions firm, the top five “smart campus” trends that higher ed facilities should consider are the following: delivering actionable insights, improved reporting capabilities at every level, sustainable and future proofing operations, campus access and safety, and event planning and utilization of campus space. Visit https://tinyurl.com/rjxxfe3 to read the full report.

What does this mean for those that design and build these facilities? These institutions will be turning to the AEC industry for the solutions – more secure facilities, resilient design, better data collection – all the topics that will be covered over the three day conference at this year’s North Atlantic Regional SCUP conference in New Haven on March 8-10.  Check out the letter from the national president of SCUP, John Fogarty, and see the list of conference speakers on page 12.

This month’s issue features part one of a series called “The Earthos Lens,” written by Philip Norton Loheed, principal at Design Partnership Plus!  Loheed examines bioregional design principles for a solution to our planet’s overconsumption dilemma.  Check out the article on page 40.

This issue also includes our second annual Women In Construction supplement. It highlights the women that are making a difference in their firms and in our industry.  I was thrilled to see how many submissions we had this year!

High-Profile will be exhibiting at the 2020 Building Performance Conference hosted by CSI Maine.  Stop by and visit us March 26 in Portland, Maine. For more information about the event, visit www.mainecsi.org.

The deadline for next month’s issue on multi-residential and senior/assisted living facilities is March 24. We encourage you to send your content our way!

Have a wonderful read!
