NAA Recognizes Three WinnCompanies Properties

The Watson

Boston – Three apartment communities developed and managed by WinnCompanies have been awarded by the National Apartment Association (NAA).

NAA’s annual Excellence Awards program recognizes outstanding performance and leadership across the rental housing industry – celebrating apartment communities, industry professionals and affiliated apartment associations that make unique contributions to the industry.

The Gordon H. Mansfield Veteran’s Community

“To be recognized for excellence and leadership in the rental housing industry by the NAA is a great endorsement of our development team’s passion to be on the cutting edge in creating the best possible living communities,” said WinnCompanies CEO, Gilbert Winn.

The three award-winning properties were built by WinnDevelopment and are now managed by WinnResidential:

  • The Gordon H. Mansfield Veteran’s Community in Tinton Falls, N.J., a 70-unit apartment community for military veterans, including those transitioning from homelessness, won the NAA Excellence Award for New Construction Community of the Year. Developed in partnership with the nonprofit Soldier On, the $23 million development opened in December 2021 and serves veterans earning between 30-80% of Area Median Income (AMI). The New Construction Community of the Year Award recognizes a new apartment community that excels in service both to the resident and community.
  • The Residences at Brighton Marine in Boston, a 102-unit, veteran’s preference property with on-site supportive services, won the NAA Excellence Award for Best Affordable Community of the Year. Developed in partnership with the nonprofit Brighton Marine, the $46 million, transit-oriented development opened in September 2020 and serves veterans and their families across the low-income, affordable and middle-income categories. The Affordable Community of the Year Award recognizes an affordable apartment community that excels in service both to the resident and community, as well as financial performance.
  • The Watson, a 140-unit mixed-income community in Quincy, Mass. featuring 86 apartments for middle-income households, won the NAA Excellence Award for Small Community of the Year. Developed with the nonprofit NeighborWorks Housing Solutions, the $44 million development opened in June 2019. The Small Community of the Year Award recognizes an apartment community with less than 150 units that excels in service both to the resident and community.

A fourth WinnCompanies’ property, Preserve North, a 284-unit affordable housing complex in Peabody, Mass., was recognized by the NAA as one of two finalists in the Best Major Rehab Community of the Year.

The Residences at Brighton Marine

“NAA extends congratulations to these communities for being selected as winners of this year’s NAA Excellence Awards,” said NAA president and CEO, Bob Pinnegar. “This award speaks to your resolute effort and commitment to improving the rental housing industry. We thank you for your contributions and continued leadership.”

WinnResidential president, Patrick Appleby, said, “Each of these communities stood out against stiff competition from across the country because of the on-site staff’s commitment to serving residents and the ongoing performance of the properties. You can’t ask for a better measure of operational success.”
