Boston – Groom Construction, Co., Inc. and SV Design announced that construction of the Danvers Community YMCA is underway.

The Pickering Street facility, built in 1950, will become more accessible and have its child care facilities upgraded. The project will include upgrading the preschool, youth center, locker rooms, and cafe. The men’s and women’s locker rooms will be relocated to the first level so they are more accessible, and youth locker rooms will be replaced with a family changing room. The Danvers Y serves 300-500 children each day in its after-school programs, summer camps, swim lessons and preschool, along with other programs.

“The Danvers YMCA, board of directors, ambassadors, staff and members are excited to be in the construction phase of the renovation here at the Y. For the past two years we have worked with both Groom Construction and SV Design in the planning and logistics phase of the project. Both organizations are known in the industry for their quality work with YMCA’s and community facilities throughout the region. Now that we are in the construction phase, we are looking forward to transforming our YMCA into a state-of-the-art facility that will make a significant difference for all our members and the communities we serve: Danvers, Boxford, Topsfield and Middleton,” said John Somes, Danvers YMCA president and CEO.
