Hartford, CT – University of Hartford’s Construction Institute will present their seventeenth annual State-
of-the-State event on Thursday October 20, 2011, 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at the Connecticut Convention Center in Downtown Hartford, Connecticut. Program Registration, Continental Breakfast, and Networking will begin at 7:45 a.m. To register, go to www.construction.org.

In November 2011 the State of Connecticut transitioned to a Governor, a new administration, and new concepts related to making state government’s construction services more efficient and consolidated. By the end of the 2011 session of the General Assembly, at the initiative of Governor Malloy, they had been consolidated into one agency, the new Department of Construction Services (DCS). The seventeenth annual State-of-the-State will examine the progress of that consolidation and how it is likely to affect design and construction firms that work on state projects. The event will host representatives from the state’s public construction market, who will provide reports on the scope and nature of their respective construction programs in 2012 and beyond.

Program moderator, West Hartford Town Manager and professional economist, Ronald Van Winkle, will
provide his view of the Connecticut economy in 2012 and beyond. The program will also feature a program
of state government luminaries, including Governor Dannel P. Malloy. New Department of Administrative
Services (DAS) Commissioner Donald DeFronzo will report on the status of the consolidation of construction
services programs. Department of Transportation (DOT) Commissioner James Redeker will provide reports
on the scope and nature of his department’s construction programs in 2012 and beyond. Alexandria Roe and
Thomas Trutter of the University of Connecticut will provide information on future developments, and an
official from the new DCS will be participating to discuss changes in the new department.
