New Bedford, MA – Bufftree Building Company is in the process of converting the former Sweater Mill/Carriage House at 280 North Street in New Bedford into the Sean Brooke House that will become home for male and female veterans in need. The house was named for Sean Brooke, who served as a combat medic in Iraq.

Expected to be ready for occupancy in spring 2010, the ADA-accessible facility will include 19 one-bedroom apartments plus an addition with a new elevator, entrance vestibule and access stairs to the upper and lower levels. Each level will have a laundry room and utility room for the convenience of the veterans.

“As this is an old building undergoing a complete renovation, it may pose some challenges,” said Bufftree Building Company Project Manager Stanley P. Cieplik. “The architects have done a great job on the design.”

The architect is Durkee, Brown, Viveiros & Werenfels Architects of Providence, R.I.
