BL Companies’ COO/CFO Named to New York City Moves Magazine Power Women List

Meriden, CT – Carolyn Stanworth, COO/CFO of BL Companies, was named to Moves magazine’s prestigious 2010 Power Women List.

Meriden, CT – Carolyn Stanworth, COO/CFO of BL Companies, was named to Moves magazine’s prestigious 2010 Power Women List. Stanworth joins an impressive list of current and past Power Women, such as Debora Spar (president of Barnard College), Andrea Mitchell, (MSNBC political correspondent), and Sharon Leite (executive vice president of store operations for Pier 1 Imports).

Stanworth is the first women in the architecture and engineering industry to be named to the Power Women list.

The Seventh Annual Power Issue (www.newyorkmoves.com ), released on November 9, 2010, identifies influential women in the New York City area; women of substance in their chosen field; individuals who make their mark and in some way change and improve our lives. Selected women are chosen from the many famous figures and less public faces from the worlds of politics, finance, showbiz, television & the media, medicine, sport, fashion and design, as well as entrepreneurs and savvy businesswomen. The awards were bestowed at a gala red carpet event on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at the Astor Center in New York City.

“Carolyn has contributed greatly to the success of BL Companies and we are very proud of her accomplishments,” said Waite Dalrymple, Chairman of the Board for BL Companies. “She has directed the financial, accounting and information technology operations since joining the firm in 1999, she was instrumental in instituting our employee-owned structure, and she was named COO in 2009 based on her successful efforts.”

Born in Virginia, Stanworth received her BS in economics with a minor in computer science from Southern Connecticut State University and an MBA in accounting from the University of New Haven. She also earned a project management certificate from Boston University. A single mother of two adult children, Stanworth also serves on the Executive Committee and chairs the Finance Committee for the Gateway Community College Foundation in New Haven.

Previously, Stanworth worked for Southern New England Telephone for 21 years, moving up the ranks in accounting, finance, auditing and operations. She is chief operating officer and chief financial officer for BL Companies, headquartered in Meriden, CT, with offices in New York, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.
