Winchendon Landfill Acquired

North Billerica, MA – W. L. French Excavating Corporation (W. L. French),  a site excavation and soil management firm, has announced a significant milestone in the acquisition of a landfill located in Winchendon.

The Winchendon Landfill, located at 580 River Street, is situated on a 14-acre portion of the 88-acre property. W. L. French will be performing closure activities on the landfill, including installing a permanent cap. As part of the capping project, the site has been permitted by MassDEP to accept up to 800,000 tons of COMM-97 unlined landfill grading and shaping materials.

There are limited options available in Massachusetts to dispose of COMM-97 unlined landfill materials, and many companies are forced to go out of state to do so. The opening of the Winchendon Landfill will help to better service the environmental needs of contractors and developers from across the state, particularly those located in the Greater Boston Area.

W. L. French, in Joint Partnership with Rampco Construction Company, also operates two Massachusetts soil reclamation facilities: Fish Road Reclamation Project and Dudley Reclamation Project, which are both located in Dudley. These facilities are currently accepting re-use soils under MassDEP Policy # COMM-15-01.

The Fish Road Reclamation Project opened in November 2018 and is the only <RCS-1 facility in the state of Massachusetts currently accepting elevated levels of naturally occurring arsenic in soils.  The Fish Road Reclamation Project has approximately 450,000 tons of airspace.

The Dudley Reclamation Project opened in 2016 and is the largest < RCS-1/< RCS-2 facility in the state of Massachusetts with over 12 million tons of airspace.

The Winchendon Landfill began accepting materials in early January 2021.
