Wentworth CPCE Announces New BSFM Program

Boston – Wentworth Institute of Technology College of Professional and Continuing Education (CPCE) recently announced the launch of a new degree program; a Bachelor of Science in Facility Management (BSFM) Program. The BSFM program are designed for working professionals that allows students to complete the degree while still being able to work full-time and fulfill their personal responsibilities. CPCE serves the educational, training and professional development needs of the architecture/engineering/construction (AEC) communities through established innovative partnerships throughout New England.

The Bachelor of Science in Facility Management (BSFM) Program offers instruction which reflects the integrated nature of today’s built environment and is designed to prepare students for professional careers in facility management for public, private and institutional organizations. Facility Management practice can be regarded as the management of a company’s or institution’s physical assets. The management of these assets involves long-term, as well as short-term, planning for physical facilities and real properties that integrates the organization’s strategic business plan and the technical components for that plan. The quality of work life and cost effectiveness of the organization’s environment are the goals of the facility manager. Wentworth students are instructed in design & construction, building technologies, business, and management principles to manage complex built environments.

The Facility Management program at Wentworth Institute of Technology is mentored and supported by the Boston Chapter of IFMA (International Facility Management Association), the 2nd largest chapter in the world with more than 800 members.  The active and supportive role the IFMA members provide results in many great learning and job opportunities for our BSFM students.

What do you learn in Wentworth’s BSFM program? Wentworth students will learn the fundamental principles in business and management together with knowledge concerning current technologies necessary for entry-level facility planning professional practice; they will learn how to apply quantitative decision-support tools and knowledge of the fundamental aspects of the built environment to completing fundamental facilities planning decisions; they will formulate the team of FM professionals needed to deliver quality building services and explain the critical role the facility manager provides in operations for the organization; Wentworth students will apply ethical principles, including correct regulatory codes, to facility planning decisions; they will demonstrate effective professional communication skills: and our students will integrate learning to address real world problems in facility planning.

What is the employment outlook for Wentworth’s BSFM students? As technology becomes more essential and commonplace in our daily lives the FM industry needs tech savvy individuals who can not only learn the growing technology requirements quickly but know how to incorporate them into the changing workplace. As the current demographic of Facility Managers ‘ages out’ of the workforce the need for talented, academically trained individuals continues to expand.  The employment future for FM’s is robust and continues to grow. For those individuals that are comfortable with a high level of responsibility and an ability to multi task the Facility Management industry provides numerous challenging, interactive positions in virtually every industry. Wentworth’s BSFM program can create a pathway to achieve professional success!
