Viking Construction Awards $9K in Scholarships

Bridgeport, CT – Three Connecticut students have been named recipients of the Viking Construction Education Scholarship. Ashley Rivera from West Haven, Austin Zacchio from Cromwell, and Bobby Martinotti from Clinton will each receive $1,000 annually while they are in school (up to $9,000 total).
Each student qualified for the financial award because he or she is pursuing a career in a construction-related field.  Rivera is beginning a four-year math and project management program at UCONN; Zacchio is starting a two-year construction management degree at Capital Community College in Hartford with plans to transfer to a four-year program; and Martinotti is in his last year of a construction management degree program at Roger Williams University in Rhode Island.
“The construction business is a competitive and challenging field and we need to support the young people who will be tomorrow’s leaders,” said Anthonly Gaglio, Sr., president of Viking.  “We are impressed with the quality of students applying – so much so that we decided to award three scholarships for the first time.  We are excited for Ashley, Austin and Bobby and are glad to be a small part of their success.”
Viking created this scholarship in 2012 to support and encourage the next generation of construction professionals.  Students need to complete an in-depth application including an in-person interview to be considered for the award, and must maintain a 2.7 grade point average to continue to receive the award.
Applications for the 2016 award will be available at http://vikingconstruction.net/pdf/VCS-Scholarship.pdf.
