Viking Completes The Heights at Darien

Darien, Conn – Viking Construction, Inc., has completed construction of the $28 million affordable community known as The Heights at DarienThis multi-phase project, which began in 2012 and was completed on schedule and on budget, included demolition, new LEED-certified construction for 23 two- and three-story buildings, landscaping, and exterior elements such as barbecue and picnic grounds, and a recycling area.
The Heights is located on the 10.5-acre site of the former Allen-O’Neil Homes (and of the former WWII-era Fitch’s Home for Soldiers).  Today, the community includes 106 one-, two- and three- bedroom apartments designed in the same architectural style as surrounding neighborhoods.  The attractive homes include energy-efficient appliances, windows and insulation, heating and cooling systems, and green-label carpeting.  Each unit features designer bathrooms and spacious closets.
The community includes a resident lounge with kitchenette and entertainment area, a fitness center, a business center with computers and complimentary wi-fi, and professional on-site management.  The Heights is considered to be in a “smart growth” location because of its proximity to trains, buses, shopping, and other conveniences.
“Each time we undertake a housing construction project, we know we are affecting families, neighborhoods and communities,” said Anthony Gaglio, Sr., president of Viking Construction, Inc.  “It is so gratifying to play a part in bringing an outdated and inefficient area back to life to meet the needs of generations to come – and to add wonderful value to the overall town.”
An official grand opening ceremony for The Heights was held in July and was attended by U.S. Representative Jim Himes, Connecticut State Housing Commissioner Evonne Klein, and other local and state dignitaries and partners.
