Uhlig Honored as ASLA Fellow

Boston –  In recognition of his extensive design expertise and leadership in the field, Robert Uhlig, President and CEO of Halvorson Design Partnership, has been inducted into the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Council of Fellows for 2017. The FASLA title is the highest honor awarded to a landscape architect and recognizes an individual’s exceptional accomplishments over a sustained period of time.

Robert Uhlig

In his 30 years with Halvorson Design, Robert has become known as a dedicated civic practitioner, design leader and thoughtful collaborator. His distinguished career has focused on creating award-winning, memorable landscapes which improve the quality of life in urban public spaces. Robert’s programming, planning and design of parks and meaningful open spaces in Boston and throughout the country exemplifies his career-long axiom that design has the power to transform and inspire communities.

“Bob has been quietly transforming Boston’s sense of self for decades,” said Julie Wormser of Boston Harbor Now. “Our work together along Boston Harbor has greatly improved the 43-mile Harborwalk, connecting the downtown waterfront to inland neighborhoods and mitigating coastal flood damage. I am pleased by the ASLA’s recognition of Bob, as his creativity is matched only by his generosity of time and spirit.”

Robert’s dedication and ingenuity in landscape architecture are exemplified in his award-winning work along Boston’s waterfront at South Boston Maritime Park and Atlantic Wharf; at Center City Park in Greensboro, North Carolina; and at Lakewood Cemetery Mausoleum in Minneapolis. His commitment to natural systems and sustainability is evidenced by the design of Boston Architectural College’s Green Alley and his extensive research on the impact of soils on urban trees.

“I am honored to have received this distinction from the ASLA with the support of the Boston Chapter,” said Uhlig. “My personal achievements are due in large measure to the talents of my colleagues, mentors, collaborators and clients—whose bold visions have provided me a platform to excel.”

Robert will be honored alongside 22 other newly-elected Fellows at the 2017 ASLA Annual Meeting, October 20-23, in Los Angeles.
