CI Hosts 2020 Women Who Build Summit

Hartford, CT – The Construction Institute has announced keynote speakers for its fifth annual 2020 Women Who Build Summit.

Each year the Construction Institute brings together the best minds in the industry – both women and men – to create an event that inspires, promotes leadership, builds connections, develops skills and fosters innovative thinking among and in support of a diverse group of professionals.

This year’s program will be held on Feb. 19-20 at the UMass Campus Center at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Last year over 250 professionals attended, from architects and engineers to contractors and subcontractors, accountants and attorneys. The program won the 2018 Connecticut Entrepreneur Awards Community Favorite Event.

This year’s theme, “Leaders, Visionaries, and Renegades,” will feature both panels and breakout sessions. Opening keynote speaker will be Jane Edmonds, vice president, programming and community outreach, Babson College.

Aisha Nadar, senior consultant, Advokatfirman Runeland AB will serve as the afternoon keynote. Denise Berger, chief of operations/engineering department for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, will be the closing keynote.

A panel of powerhouse owners will explore what it takes to become a leader in the design and construction industry, and a panel of “renegades” will explore how women are leading cutting-edge developments in the industry.

The breakout sessions will explore practical topics including developing personal presentation, building reputation, becoming your own boss, and managing difficult conversations.

The program is supported by many industry organizations in the Northeast region, including divisions of Professional Women in Construction, the National Association of Women in Construction, the American Institute of Architects, the Association of General Contractors, and others.
