Stroundwater Lodge grand opening/PROCON
Westbrook, ME – Northbridge Companies and the Sandy River Company recently welcomed local dignitaries, partners, residents, and friends to the grand opening of Stroudwater Lodge Senior Living. PROCON of Manchester, N.H. was the construction manager, and Gawron Turgeon Architects of Scarborough, Maine designed the building.

This 90,848sf state-of-the-art multilevel community features 95 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments with the option of independent or assisted living. The thoughtfully designed environment includes a robust selection of programs and services specific to older adults. Among the numerous amenities are a theatre, salon and barber shop, gourmet kitchen, pub, and a fitness center. Planned group programs are also available for the residents to enjoy, such as computer, yoga, or painting classes through the Artists in Residence Program. Community members who like cooking may take classes with the executive chef.

Stroudwater’s design, with its gabled roof and A-framed entry, echoes the welcoming style of a Maine Lodge. The community sits on a 65-acre wooded campus adjacent to sister community Avita of Stroudwater, which opened in 2013 and focuses on memory care.
Exterior elements feature manicured landscaping complete with comfortable seating and an outdoor patio with a fire pit. It also boasts approximately a mile of walking trails for residents that enjoy outdoor excursions.

Every contingency for comfort and convenience has been addressed. A 24-hour specialized trained staff is equipped with all the tools to provide exceptional service. Additionally, all personnel undergoes an intensive memory care program that exceeds industry standards.
The opening of Stroudwater Lodge completes the owner’s masterplan for adding three senior living communities to the Maine landscape in Brunswick, Wells, and Westbrook. In fact, the new communities could not have come at a greater time for multifamily housing. According to David Schless, President of the American Seniors Housing Association, “With more than 10,000 baby boomers turning 65 every day, the demographics are smiling on the senior housing market segment.”
That is good news for Northbridge and Sandy River, whose combined resources directly address the underserved senior living market while covering the full continuum of older adult care options. It’s also good news for Westbrook’s Stroudwater Lodge with 15% of the town’s population over 65 or older, according to a 2010 census.
The three combined communities have generated approximately 285 new jobs in the State of Maine. But, at the end of the day, the goal is to provide its residents with a thoughtful and caring place that they can call home.
