SMPS Boston invites you to put on your walking shoes and join them for the “Live, Work, & Play” tour to see the diverse Innovation Innovation District in Boston’s Seaport neighborhood. In 1999, the City of Boston outlined a plan to enhance the Seaport area and transform it into a vital, mixed-used neighborhood. Today we can see the rapid evolution and we will discuss the story behind the design as well as project challenges overcome. Mix@6 will immediately follow.
The tour is scheduled for Mon., July 25, 2016, 3:30pm – 6:00pm To sign up visit: http://smpsboston.org/event/live-work-play-in-the-evolving-seaport-project-tour
Watermark Seaport is skillfully nestled between Boston’s historic Fort Point District and the emerging Seaport, serving as a gateway between Boston’s past and its promising future. The project is comprised of two buildings joined by a common entry lobby. The smaller building is scaled to fit appropriately with the historic district, while the taller 17-story tower links Watermark Seaport to the revitalization of the neighborhood. Designed to accommodate a range of lifestyles the Watermark Seaport offers a variety of unit types as well as a full amenities package.
Interesting Facts: Watermark Seaport:
1. The lobby is designed as a continuation of the historic street grid and the interior components were designed to highlight the fact that it is a space to move through.
2. The loft is designed with a more industrial aesthetic – with a metal ceiling in the corridors, exposed concrete floors and ceilings in the units, and large windows in all of the units.
3. The wall tiles in the corridor outside of the fitness area are truly a local piece – we did the curating and design, Artaic – out of the Design Center fabricated and installed the tiles–and Artists for Humanity provided the artwork.
4. The powder rooms have been nicknamed “brothel rooms”
5. The light fixtures in the mailroom, lounge, billiards area, and the dining room were selected to connect the design back to the Seaport District – they look like they belong in the sea without being too literal.
