SMMA Wins Bronze Engineering Excellence Award

Winchester High School

Winchester, MA – The American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA) has named SMMA as a winner of a 2018 Bronze Engineering Excellence Awards for work on the Winchester High School renovation project in Winchester.

SMMA, with offices in Cambridge, was retained by the Education Facilities Planning and Building Committee of Winchester High School to help transform the out-of-place 1970’s brutalist building centrally located in a dense, downtown neighborhood with no excess land to construct a new school. The building was in an expansive floodplain with site settlement and contaminated soils and did not reflect the school’s top 10 status and National Blue Ribbon credentials.  SMMA faced many challenges with the project, including the need to design for settlement both under and around the building.
