Glastonbury, CT – S/L/A/M Construction Services (SLAM CS) has completed owner’s representative services for the town of New Canaan Saxe Middle School additions and renovation project.
The project team included the architectural firm of JCJ Architecture, construction manager O&G Industries, and environmentalist Tighe & Bond.
This multiphased project consisted of a new 24,000sf two-story addition composed of STEM, science, art, and general classrooms. Construction also involved the complete renovation of a 60-year-old, 750-seat auditorium and new choral and band rooms. The project was tightly organized and phased to minimize disruption to the middle school students and staff. Environmental abatement and disruptive work was performed during the school’s closings.
Additionally, SLAM CS worked with a local subcontractor to remove and refurbish the existing 1950’s seating in the auditorium. This additional value to New Canaan Public Schools saved money, achieved the school’s environmental stewardship goal, and provided a higher quality product.
SLAM CS, led by Eugene Torone acting as the Owner’s Representative, was engaged to do a feasibility study that helped define program needs, project scope and budget. The firm managed the solicitation and award of key contracts for architectural/engineering, construction management, and environmental services. SLAM CS oversaw the design and construction of the project.
“SLAM CS and Eugene Torone were a key part of the team in guiding the Building Committee to a successful result. The project was accomplished on time and on budget. The faculty, administration and students are excited to use the new classroom spaces and auditorium, which put Saxe on the road to continued success.” said Bryan Luizzi, Superintendent of New Canaan Public Schools.
In 2015, SLAM CS completed Owner’s Representative services for the pre-construction and construction phase of New Canaan’s South Elementary School’s window replacement, security upgrade and visual improvement projects.
