Shawmut Tops Off River House

Providence, R.I. –  Shawmut Design and Construction joined Wexford Science & Technology, LLC, GMH Capital Partners, and the State of Rhode Island on May 22 for a topping-off ceremony at River House apartments.

Designed by architect Spagnolo Gisness & Associates (SGA), River House is a new waterfront community that will provide luxury residences for university students, young professionals, and families in the area. Set to be completed in May 2019, the public-private project will consist of two newly-constructed seven story buildings comprising of 153,000sf and will feature 174 units/270-beds that front Point Street and the Providence River in a mix of studio, 1-bedroom, and 2-bedroom floorplans.

The apartment homes  will include designer bathrooms, modern fixtures, and fully furnished units. Additional amenities include full kitchen and laundry facilities in each unit, a health and fitness center, self-serve coffee bar, private study rooms, meeting and lounge spaces, bike storage, and first-floor lobby café.

River House will comprise the final element of Wexford’s South Street Landing development, which currently consists of approximately 265,000sf of academic and office space as well as a 744-space parking garage. It is a vibrant ecosystem of academics, commerce, and innovation, serving the needs of Brown University, as well as housing the Rhode Island Nursing Education Center (NEC), utilized by the University of Rhode Island and Rhode Island College.

It will include limited surface parking, a new exterior courtyard, and a driveway linking to adjacent Davol Square and South Street Landing. The project will enable approximately 5,000sf of retail and restaurant space and will enhance the community’s ability to access the river.
