Glastonbury, CT – The new Comedy Theater for Sea Tea Improv has reached completion, hosting a successful grand opening weekend on August 20 with five shows. After having entertained Hartford audiences in various venues such as City Steam Brewery, HartBeat Ensemble’s Carriage House Theater, Billings Forge, and Real Art Ways, the comedy troupe finally has a home it can call its own.

Designed by The S/L/A/M Collaborative (SLAM), the newly renovated 3,800sf black-box theater features seating for 80 spectators, including ADA-compliant seating; a ticket window and refreshment area; new restrooms; a green room; audio/visual, acoustics, and lighting upgrades; and all new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

SLAM provided programming/planning, design, and documentation and has administered construction. van Zelm Engineers of Farmington provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering services, and Michael Galvin of Heartwood Home Renovations is the construction manager on the project.

“SLAM was proud to be selected by Sea Tea to design their new home, and we really enjoyed collaborating with them to create a space that gives them the room to showcase their many talents,” says Dan Harazim, AIA, SLAM project manager and designer. “We are also glad to be able to contribute to the continued growth of downtown Hartford.”

Located in the basement of 15 Asylum Street in Hartford, this new theater is the first dedicated improv comedy theater in the state’s history hosting improv, sketch, stand-up, and collaborative comedy all year round. Sea Tea will hold a minimum of six unique comedy shows per week each year for $10 a ticket.
