Bedford, NH – PROCON, a Manchester-based design-build firm, recently took home multiple ABC Excellence in Construction awards for its projects.
Portwalk Phase 3 of Portsmouth won three awards in the Design-Build category, Excellence in Construction, Sustainable Building, and the Community Service Award.
The project was environmentally friendly from conception, recycling 98% of its construction waste and diverting 3,453 tons of debris away from landfills. Its LEED Silver-designed apartments and hotel are energy and water efficient, use non-CFC refrigerants, Energy Star appliances, and include electric car charging stations.
Totaling 290,000sf, it spans a city block consisting of a hotel, apartment complex with ground floor retail spaces, and a below-grade parking garage. It was the final phase of the Portwalk Place live-work-play complex, connecting major streets and introducing walkability to the downtown metropolis.
Fairfield Inn & Suites
Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott in Cambridge, Mass. won the Merit Design-Build Award and the Sustainable Building Award. It recently received a LEED Silver certification for its multiple green features, including a white roof, oversized windows, low-flow plumbing, and LED lighting throughout the hotel’s common spaces and parking lot. The 123-guestroom hotel is located at 215 Monsignor O’Brien Highway in the heart of Cambridge’s business, art, and historic district. The hotel’s exterior features an eye-catching glass-canopied porte-cochere entrance, and upper floor guestrooms offer stunning views of the Cambridge skyline.

The annual ABC event is one of the premier competitions in the building and construction industry, showcasing and recognizing outstanding construction projects throughout the region from some of its leading firms. A cross-section panel of judges representing owners, architects, and planners selects the winners in several categories. Awards are based on criteria that recognize professionalism, creativity, attention-to-detail, general appearance, sustainable practice and overall accomplishments in its category.
The event, hosted by ABC NH/VT (The Associated Builders and Contractors of New Hampshire/Vermont Chapter) at the N.H. Manchester Country Club in Bedford, recognizes the top construction companies in the region with awards given for outstanding projects.
Upon receiving the awards, co-presidents Lance Bennett and James Loft took to the stage, along with representatives from their teams to say thank you. Jim Loft stated, “Portwalk Phase III was a milestone project that brought us together as a company – the technical aspect, the design, and the constructability.” Lance Bennett confirmed, “Up until that time, Portwalk was our largest design-build project to date, and one that everyone at PROCON touched at some point or another.” He went on to express gratitude to the families of PROCON employees by supporting them during tireless work hours until the project’s completion.
