Bedford, NH – The Manchester Housing and Redevelopment Authority has chosen Eckman Construction of Bedford to serve as construction manager to build new affordable housing units on South Main Street in Manchester. The new two-story facility, to be composed of 20 one-bedroom apartments, common spaces, and full laundry amenities, will provide Manchester residents a centrally located housing option along the Piscataquog River.

“Our team is excited to again work with The Manchester Housing and Redevelopment Authority to give Manchester residents another affordable housing option,” said Preston Hunter, vice president at Eckman Construction. “The apartments on South Main Street will be located in a great spot for those that want to be walking distance from Manchester’s West Side.”

The new apartment building will be located at 168-194 South Main Street in Manchester where the consignment store Opus currently exists. According to their company website, Opus will be moving to a new location, as the existing building will be removed to make way for the brand new apartment building and future resident parking. Construction is anticipated to begin this summer.

This is the fourth project on which Eckman Construction has teamed with The Manchester Housing and Redevelopment Authority. The project will be funded primarily by the New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority (NHHFA) and the city of Manchester. CMK Architects, P.A. of Manchester is providing architectural services.
