NEI Completes 2nd Phase of Jackson Square Redevelopment Initiative

Jamaica Plain, MA – NEI recently wrapped up a second project within the Jackson Square Redevelopment Initiative, which is a community-driven plan that will transform 8-11 acres of vacant lots into a mixed-use, transit-oriented, environmentally-sustainable community. 75 Amory, an $11.1 Million new construction residential project with owner Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corp. and architect Tise Design Associates is bringing 39 new affordable housing units to the community.

75 Amory was built on a site which consisted of three major parcels. In the 1960’s, buildings  were demolished to make way for an 8-lane extension of I-95 which was later scrapped, leaving a path of destruction through the intersection of Columbus Avenue and Centre Street at Jackson Square.

In 2005, Jackson Square Partners (JPNDC, Urban Edge, The Community Builders, and Hyde Square Task Force) was tasked with redeveloping the crossroads between Jamaica Plain and Roxbury. NEI completed a gateway project for the redevelopment in October 2015, Jackson Commons. NEI worked with Urban Edge on the mixed-use project which included 37 mixed-income apartments as well as 12,000 SF of space for a neighborhood learning center and office space.

As the latest addition to the JSRI, the four-story, wood-framed, LEED Silver Certifiable 75 Amory features 39 affordable apartments with 28 residential parking spaces, a community room, and outdoor patio. Many of the 3-bedroom apartments will be on the ground floor with patios and direct access to the street. The property is also conveniently less than a ¼ mile from the Jackson Square T station. 75 Amory will be a vital component in the development of Boston’s Latin Quarter.
