Providence, RI  – Shawmut Design and Construction joined GMH Capital Partners, Wexford Science & Technology, and the State of Rhode Island recently for a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Innovation and Design District’s all-new River House, a 153,000sf waterfront community providing luxury residences for university students, young professionals, and families in the area.

Designed by architect Spagnolo Gisness & Associates (SGA), River House is a public-private project representing the final element of Wexford’s South Street Landing development, which currently consists of approximately 265,000sf of academic and office space as well as a 744-space parking garage. It is a vibrant ecosystem of academics, commerce, and innovation, serving the needs of Brown University, as well as housing the Rhode Island Nursing Education Center, utilized by the University of Rhode Island and Rhode Island College.

River House features two seven-story wings with 174 units/270 beds that front Point Street and the Providence River. A mix of studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom floorplans with spacious layouts and cutting-edge amenities are available, conveniently located to downtown, restaurants, shopping, and universities — including Brown University and its main campus on College Hill, as well as Johnson & Wales University, Rhode Island School of Design, and the University of Rhode Island.

The River House apartments are sensible, stylish and modern, and include designer bathrooms; in-unit laundry; complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi; and smart technology with a mobile video interactive intercom system, a mounted living room smart TV, and Amazon Echo capability features.

River House also includes access to an off-site, structured parking garage with car-charging stations and indoor bike storage while providing direct riverfront access, giving residents the ability to launch water vehicles. The project also enables approximately 4,200sf of retail and restaurant space.
