Boston – Shepley Bulfinch recently announced that Scott Mueller, AIA, LEED AP has earned board certification from the American College of Healthcare Architects (ACHA), an organization dedicated to transforming healthcare through better built environments.

ACHA distinguishes healthcare architects with specialized skills and proven expertise throughout the United States and Canada. Certificate holders must meet rigorous standards, provide documented experience, and demonstrate their skills through a computer-based examination. Once certified, the ACHA requires certificate holders to work towards the improvement of healthcare architecture on behalf of the public, to practice in an ethical manner, to maintain high standards of specialized continuing education, and to add to the body of knowledge. There are approximately 1,500 architects in the United States with ACHA certification.

As a senior healthcare planner at Shepley Bulfinch, Scott is responsible for the planning, coordination, documentation, and leadership of project teams. He has worked extensively in NICU, ambulatory, inpatient, and medical office building settings, marrying his passion for medical planning with his desire to create lean and cost-effective patient and staff-friendly spaces. With more than 18 years of experience, Scott is recognized as an expert in healthcare design. His current projects at Shepley Bulfinch include a campus Master Plan, the Center for Musculoskeletal Care, and an Advanced Ambulatory Surgery Center at Yale New Haven Health’s St. Raphael Campus in New Haven, Conn.  Additionally, he is working on a NICU renovation project at Yale New Haven Health’s Bridgeport Hospital Campus in Bridgeport, Conn.

“Earning ACHA accreditation is a great validation of Scott’s healthcare design skills and abilities, and all of us at Shepley Bulfinch commend him on taking the initiative to earn this honorable professional achievement,” said Carole Wedge, FAIA, LEED AP, president of Shepley Bulfinch. “Shepley Bulfinch has developed a trusted reputation in the healthcare field, tackling large, complex projects such as pediatric and specialty hospitals, emergency care centers, and academic medical centers, and creating spaces that promote healing, emphasize flexibility, and support our clients in providing quality healthcare. We are proud to count Scott as a trusted, devoted member of our team.”

A registered and LEED accredited architect, Scott received a Master of Architecture and a certificate in historic preservation studies from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the Valparaiso University.
