MBTA Shore Line Bridge No. B-16-475
Needham, MA – The American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA) has named Louis Berger as a winner of a 2018 Bronze Engineering Excellence Awards for work on the MBTA Shore Line Bridge Replacement project in Boston.
The 2018 Engineering Excellence Awards were announced at the recent ACEC/MA Engineering Excellence and Awards Gala with emcees Beth J. Larkin, PE, MBTA Assistant General Manager for Capital Delivery, and Housamm (“Sam”) H. Sleiman, PE, CCM, MassPort Director of Capital Programs & Environmental Affairs.
Louis Berger, with offices in Needham, was retained by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority to design a replacement for the MBTA Shore Line Bridge No. B-16-475, which carries the Fairmount and Franklin Line commuter rail service, CSX freight service, and spans over Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor and MBTA Shore Line. The existing single-span bridge, built in 1898, was replaced with several pre-accelerated bridge construction (ABC) techniques for systems relocations, foundation construction, and structure fabrication as work window hours were substantially restricted.
