Hudson, MA – Calare Properties (Calare), a private, Massachusetts-based investment firm, recently hired Joanne Lao as a Senior Acquisitions Associate.

In her new role, Lao will support Calare’s acquisitions team by developing lease abstracts, verifying underwriting, and reviewing historical financials. Additionally, she will directly interface with local brokers, partners, third party consultants, and transaction counterparties to ensure effective communication between the firm and its respective partners. Lao will also assist with new acquisition closings, which includes reviewing estoppels, preparing internal transition memos, and transferring the property to the assigned asset manager.

“Joanne’s impressive resume and background made her the ideal choice for the Senior Acquisitions Associate role,” commented Bryan Blake, President at Calare. “Calare dedicates itself to exceeding the needs and expectations of its partners during often complex transactions, and Joanne’s ability to effectively communicate with those parties will make her a valuable member to the team. We look forward to her contributions and are confident that she will have an immediate impact as we continue our growth throughout the region and beyond.”

Prior to joining Calare, Lao served as Vice President, International Trade and Investments & Chief of Staff to the President at Massachusetts Competitive Partnership (MCAP). In this role, she worked as the strategic advisor to the CEO for the development and implementation of the organization’s mission, raised $200,000 in corporate sponsorships to fund industry roundtables, and coordinated trade missions for Massachusetts-based businesses with the United Kingdom, Ireland, Israel, Brazil, and Colombia. Notably, she also founded and developed Massachusetts’ Global Alumni Network to encourage former students of the region’s universities and colleges to become ambassadors for Massachusetts in their home countries.

“It is an exciting time to join one of the region’s most well-respected and surging real estate investment firms,” said Lao. “Calare’s outstanding reputation, entrepreneurial culture, expansive portfolio, and talented team compelled me to pursue this opportunity. I look forward to working alongside industry veterans such as Bill Manley and Bryan Blake, and am confident that my diverse background will allow me to immediately immerse myself and contribute to Calare’s continued success.”

Lao received her Applied Baccalaureate Degree in History from Bowdoin College and her Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. In her spare time, she is an avid volunteer for YearUp, which provides urban young adults with the skills and experience to reach their potential through professional careers and higher education, and is an organizational member of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) and NAIOP Massachusetts.
