Burlington, MA – Kaplan Construction announced it has completed interior build out for a new retail space for Miltons – The Store for Men at the Burlington Mall in Burlington. Doing business in Massachusetts for more than 75 years, this is the third store location for Miltons, joining stores in Chestnut Hill Square and the South Shore Plaza.

“We have worked with Kaplan on renovations dating back to 1998 so we knew they were the right construction manager to build out our newest store in Burlington,” said Bill Leva, COO and CFO for Miltons. “Their attention to detail and coordination of all aspects of the project made all the difference on this project.”

The 12,000sf space, designed by Arrowstreet, includes two lounges and private fitting areas, complete with ADA-compliant dressing rooms and custom seating and viewing areas. Kaplan constructed merchandise displays throughout the store including Miltons’ signature invisible wall shelving, backlit shoe display walls, custom-lit spotlight storefronts, and the chain’s inaugural wedding bar for one-stop wedding apparel shopping. The cash wrap, comprised of stone counters, features a textured wall with various wood molding patterns for visual interest.

Kaplan built out stock rooms, staff areas, and a tailor shop for alterations, requiring new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) tie-ins. Additionally, Kaplan provided infrastructure for signage and merchandise security within the store and open mall areas.

A significant challenge was coordinating lighting and fire protection equipment within the narrow confines of the wood slat ceiling, which had a lengthy lead time. With only an inch and a half of clearance, Kaplan had to determine the installation location of the pendant light fixtures and sprinkler drops in advance of delivery.

The retail store is part of the next phase of The Simon Property Group’s redevelopment of the Burlington Mall, which features a modern age makeover with an outdoor park, event area, and additional dining destinations, along with other shops.

The project team members also include Breen & Sullivan, mechanical; Platinum Electrical Services, electrical; Johnson Controls, fire protection; and Dan-Cel Company, plumbing.
