Toys for Tots

Hamden , CT – On Tuesday, December 9, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Connecticut Building Congress’ December program will feature a panel including facility owner Quinnipiac University, the architect, and the construction company, discussing the award-winning project, Ireland’s Great Hunger Museum, at Quinnipiac University, 3011 Whitney Ave., Hamden, Conn.

The speaker panel will include Salvatore Filardi, vice president, facilities and capital planning, Quinnipiac University; Leonard Wyeth, AIA, Wyeth Architects; William Hardy, president, FIP Construction; and moderator, Martin Onorato, Robinson & Cole.

Learn from key team members from the CBC 2014 Project Team award-winning project how they used collaboration and best practices to take this unique project from concept to operation, and see the results firsthand at the museum itself. The main goal of the team was to reuse and renovate an 1890 library building in Hamden into a museum housing the university’s growing collection of historical and contemporary artwork devoted to Ireland’s Great Hunger. In addition, hear about ongoing and upcoming capital projects at Quinnipiac University.

The museum’s collection portrays the extensive suffering wrought by the famine of 1845-52, which saw Ireland’s population drop by half, with 1 million people dying from hunger and illness, and another 2 million people emigrating to America, Australia, Canada, and Great Britain. The museum explores the political, economic, and social climate of the time, including the troubled relationship between Ireland and Great Britain.
