Rochester, NH – JSA Inc., an architecture, planning and interior design firm, was selected for the unique opportunity to restore the Gafney Home in Rochester, a magnificent Victorian mansion donated in 1904 by Judge Charles B. Gafney.
The historic landmark, located at 90 Wakefield Street and currently owned by Community Action Partnership of Strafford Country, stands at a prominent intersection in the downtown neighborhood and has served the community for 115 years, many of those dedicated to the elderly as a small 20-bed assisted living facility.
The character of the grand mansion is being preserved while incorporating modern functions including additional improvements like an elevator. The outcome of the project will provide apartments to those age 62 years and older who have demonstrated financial need, much in keeping with the original mission that Judge Gafney intended.
Construction is tentatively set for Spring 2021 and is contingent upon planning approval and securing competitive Low Income Housing Tax Credit funds.
