Alumni Hall at Springfield College

Springfield, MA – Erland Construction has been selected to execute a program of renovations to Alumni Hall at Springfield College, a 254-bed student residence hall. Phased construction will commence in mid-June, 88 years after the building was originally dedicated. Building improvements will include upgraded bathrooms, a new roof, new flooring, and cosmetic enhancements throughout the interior.  This is the sixth project Erland has done on the Springfield College campus.

The cornerstone for the iconic Alumni Hall was placed on September 22, 1926. From October 1944 to February 1946, the building was used as a U.S. Navy Convalescent Hospital for servicemen injured in WWII. Constructed as a dormitory, the masonry and steel building was financed through donations from Springfield College alumni representing classes from 1889 to 1928.

The partnership between Springfield College and Erland Construction, Inc. began in 2008 and has encompassed five previous projects. Erland managed construction of the new Wellness and Recreation Complex; the new Richard B. Flynn Campus Union; the gut/rehab of the Judd Gymnasia, which now houses the Stizter YMCA Center; and renovations to Locklin Hall – an academic/administrative building. In 2011, Erland repaired 61,000 square feet of tornado-caused damage in four buildings, completing the work in just 86 days.
