Epping, NH – EnviroVantage recently received three awards from the Associated Builders and Contactors (ABC) New Hampshire/Vermont chapter. The three awards include an Excellence award for the Kingswood School project, a Merit award for the New Hampshire Community Loan Fund project, and a Merit award for the Loring Air Force Base project. They are very grateful to be recognized by such an important organization within the construction industry for their hard work on these projects.
The Kingswood School project was an especially significant project due to the large scope and fast track schedule. The Kingswood Regional School, located in Wolfeboro, NH consists of Kingswood High School, Kingswood Middle School, and a vocational technical education center. Wishing to bring the three schools up to modern operating standards as well as trying to offset heating costs with the use of geothermal heating and cooling systems, the Governor Wentworth Regional School District hired North Branch Construction as the construction manager for this colossal undertaking. North Branch then hired several local subcontractors to work on the project, including EnviroVantage (EV). EV had to gut out all the buildings to enable North Branch to coordinate the work of all the other trades as they brought the school up to modern day standards. The Kingswood Regional School project spanned three years for EnviroVantage, from 2010 to 2012.
The New Hampshire Community Loan Fund was another special project because of what it meant to the community. The New Hampshire Community Loan Fund was established in 1983, one of the first Community Development Financial Institutions in the U.S. They provide the financing and support that people with low and moderate incomes need to have affordable housing. The NH Community Loan Fund building in Concord went through several renovations after fires which occurred under the previous owners, and it was time to truly remake the building. These two historic early 1800’s 2-story houses that were joined with a single story addition were on their way to a complete makeover!
Nonetheless, no one knew how much work the building truly needed until the project was underway. Cobb Hill Construction originally hired EnviroVantage to do the gut of the building. As site conditions were being uncovered, the scope kept expanding. It was found that the building was in such poor condition, that mostly everything had to be removed. Not to mention, asbestos was found, so it had to be abated as well. Only the walls remained once everything was gutted out, with no roof or floors. From there, the building could be rebuilt for the NH Community Loan Fund. EnviroVantage’s part of the project took a total of 5 months.
The third project for which EnviroVantage received an award was the Loring Air Force Base. In 2011, the Maine Military Authority decided that this decommissioned air force base, located in Limestone, Maine, needed retrofitting for new tenants. EnviroVantage (EV) was hired by Cordjia Capital Projects Group as the specialty contractor for the asbestos abatement in three metal buildings. This was a six-month project for EnviroVantage.
At the Loring Air Force Base, the majority of the work included penetrations in approximately 4600 square feet of exterior building material—steel corrugated exterior and interior, insulation, and transite panels sandwiched within. EnviroVantage also had the task of removing asbestos pipe insulation, which was throughout the 104,000 square foot hanger. Most of the pipe runs were 30 plus feet in the air, and they had to be accessed from 20-foot lifts. The last part of the project took place in the second floor offices in the back of the building, where EV had to take out 7028 square feet of floor tile and mastic.
EnviroVantage had an excellent time at the ABC NH/VT awards ceremony on October 24th. They would like to extend a sincere ‘thank you’ to the companies who came to support them at the event as well as to everyone on their project teams for making these challenging projects a success.
